横浜グリッツを知ったきっかけは？
実は横浜グリッツが結成される前は、日光アイスバックスのファンでした。
日光まで観戦に行ける試合を探すため、常にアイスバックスのスケジュールをチェックする日々。
グリッツの名前を初めて聞いた時「横浜グリッツって一体何ぞや？」と不思議に思い、グーグルで検索して、早速最初の試合を見に行きました。
そこで、元アイスバックスの小野耕平選手がチームに所属しているのを見て、小野選手のように一生横浜グリッツのファンになろうと決めました。
横浜グリッツで一番好きな選手は？また、その選手を際立たせている瞬間や特徴は何ですか？
一人だけを選ぶのは難しいですね。
小野選手は僕がファンになったきっかけです。
平野選手は、NHLからAHLに昇格するまで応援していて楽しかったです。
AHLはNHLの1リーグ隣です。

でも、僕の一番のお気に入りはアレックス・ラウター選手です。
「ラウター！我がブラザー！」
僕たち二人ともニュージャージー出身です。
EliteProspects.comによると、彼は47ゴール、72アシスト、そして通算119ポイントを記録しています。
彼には横浜グリッツで長く活躍してくれることを願っています。
アレックス・ラウター選手のグリッツでのキャリアで一番好きな瞬間は、ホームゲームで「ラウター！」と応援しているときにPKを決めてくれた時です。
これまで生で観た中で一番好きなグリッツの試合は？
グリッツが強豪レッドイーグルスを破った戦い。
好きな日本のスポーツチームは？
横浜グリッツと横浜ベイスターズが1位と2位です。
他に好きなのは、横浜エクセレンス、横浜キャノンイーグルス、そしてグリッツと提携している横浜F・マリノスです。
富士通フロンティアーズと川崎ブレイブサンダースは、僕にとって川崎に住んでいた時代を代表する心の中の特別な存在となっています。
横浜に引っ越す前は川崎に住んでいました。
今は横浜ハーバーズというアメリカンフットボールチームについてもっと知りたく思っています。
好きなNHLチームは？
タンパベイ・ライトニング！
家のリビングルームにどでかいチームの旗をかけているくらいです。（笑）
今一番好きなNHL選手は？
ブレイデン・ポイント選手！
NHL史上一番好きな選手は？
むむ、難しい質問ですね…でもやはり、マーティン・セントルイスでしょうか。
日本以外で好きなスポーツチームは？
タンパベイ・ライトニング、タンパベイ・レイズ、タンパベイ・バッカニアーズ！
大学時代はUSF、ハワイ、フロリダ・ゲーターズでした。
NBAでは、以前はニュージャージー・ネッツでしたが、ネッツがニュージャージーを去った後はフィラデルフィア・セブンティシクサーズになりました。
これまで観戦した中で最も印象に残っている試合は？（生中継・テレビ両方）
タンパベイ・ライトニングが2004年のスタンレーカップを制覇した時、僕は会場にいました。
まるでハリウッド映画のような魔法のような光景でした。
横浜の皆さんにも、グリッツのようなホッケーチームが優勝する姿を見てもらいたいです。
チームが経験してきた苦難も報われるし、チームが苦境に立たされた時に応援してくれたファンにとって、優勝はより特別なものになるでしょう。
過去の歴史的なホッケーの試合を観戦できるとしたら、どれを選びますか？
「氷上の奇跡」は、1980年ニューヨーク州レークプラシッドで開催された冬季オリンピックのアイスホッケーの試合を指します。
ディズニー映画に「ミラクル」という作品がありますが、これは劣勢のチームが不可能を可能たらしめた物語なのです。
ホッケー史上最高の名セリフは、試合終了時にABCのアル・マイケルズが言った「あなたは奇跡を信じますか？」です。
ホッケーファンなら、ぜひこの映画を見てください。
横浜グリッツは毎シーズン観戦するべきです。
リーグの仕組み上、私たちは常に劣勢のチームだからです。
横浜で奇跡が起こるのが待ちきれません。
アジアアイスホッケーリーグの現状についてどう思いますか？好きなルールやトレンド、嫌いなルールはありますか？
横浜で好きなスポーツを観戦できるのは嬉しいです。
他の都市にもチームが進出してくれることを願っています。
ただ、リーグのバランスが取れていないのが残念でなりません。
繰り返しになってしまいますが、審判員の育成が何よりの急務です。
日本には野球、サッカー、その他多くのスポーツで優れた審判員がいます。
これはリーグ全体で取り組むべき課題だと強く信じています。
横浜グリッツで今、もっと注目されるべき過小評価されている選手は誰ですか？
こ…これも難しい質問ですね…。
多くの選手がもっと注目されるべきです。
だからこそこのブログを始め、横浜グリッツと横浜の素晴らしさを世界に伝えるのが目標の一つでもあります。
交代で出場する2人のゴールキーパー、富田選手と古川選手はタフで、いつもチームを支えてくれます。
磯部選手は試合でどんな活躍を見せてくれるのか、楽しみです。
ディフェンスは年々向上していますが、ロックウェル選手と齊藤選手が今後どんな活躍を見せてくれるのか、とても楽しみです。
運上選手はまさに戦士。
鈴木選手と池田選手は十分な評価を受けていないと常日頃思っております。
私のおすすめは杉本華唯選手です！
彼は氷上のスターで、世界にもっと彼の名を知らしめるべきです。
これまで生で見れたホッケーの最高の瞬間は？その時の観客の反応はどうでしたか？
これは簡単。
タンパベイ・ライトニングの2024年スタンレーカップ優勝です。
第7戦、第3ピリオド突入時、誰かが「人生で最も長い20分だ」と書かれたプラカードを掲げました。
誰も彼らが勝てるとは思っていなかった…リーグも、メディアも、そしてファンさえも。
あの第3ピリオドでは、無宗教の人々が祈りを捧げ、見知らぬ人々が手をつなぎ、同じ目標を願う姿が見られました。
新しいファンは、優勝がいつまでも心に残る思い出になることを知って、歓声を上げました。
古参のファンは、喜びの涙を流していました。
横浜グリッツをずっと応援してきたファンに、喜びの涙がこぼれることがあるのを知ってほしい。
不可能を可能にし、想像をはるかに超える大きな何かの一部となるために、誰もが自分自身の一部を犠牲にしたからです。
過去を振り返れば、戦士がチャンピオンへと変貌した瞬間と共に、苦難の時代を思い出すでしょう。
リーグの笑いものだった頃、あらゆる面で不利な状況に置かれ、コーセーのアリーナを傷心で去ったにも関わらず、横浜グリッツのチームを離れることはなかったことを誇りに思うでしょう。
横浜グリッツの熱狂的なファンには、この思いを味わってほしいのです。
今シーズンの横浜グリッツの予想は？
リーグの体制からすると、4チームによるプレーオフ進出は可能だと思っています。
フリーブレイズにも僅差で勝てる。
もしプレーオフに進めなかったら、横浜ファンにとって大きな痛手となることでしょう。
満月を見上げながら「グリッツ最高！グリッツ軍団!!!」と叫んだことはありますか？

How did you discover the Yokohama Grits?
I was a Nikko Ice Bucks fan before the Yokohama Grits ever existed.
One day, I was checking out the Ice Bucks schedule to see what games I would be able to go up to Nikko for.
When looking I remember saiying to myself, “who the hell are The Yokohama Grits?”
I googled them and went to their first game ever.
I saw Kohei Ono, a former Ice Buck, who was on the team and decided just like Ono I would be a Yokohama Grits fan for life.
Who’s your all-time favorite Yokohama Grits player, and what moment or trait makes them stand out?
It is hard to choose just one.
Ono was the reason I became a fan.
Hirano was fun to root for before leaving and making it all the way up to the AHL.
The AHL is one league away from the NHL.
I have a lot of love in my heart for the original Captain Shuji Kikuchi.
But my all time favorite is Alex Rauter. “RAUTER! MY BOY!”
Both of us are from New Jersey.
According to EliteProspects.com He has scored 47 Goals, 72 Assists, and a total of 119 points and counting.
I hope he has a long career as a Yokohama Grit.
My favorite moment of Alex Rauter’s Grits career was a home game penalty shot where we were chanting “RAUTER” and he scored.
Favorite Grits Game you have seen live?
When the Grits defeated the power house Red Eagles.
Favorite Japanese Sports Teams?
Yokohama Grits & Yokohama BayStars are #1 and #2.
Other favorites are Yokohama Excellence, Yokohama Cannon Eagles, and Yokohama F. Marinos because they work with the Grits.
Fujitsu Frontiers and Kawasaki Brave Thunders have a spot in my Kawasaki heart.
I used to live in Kawasaki before moving to Yokohama.
I want to learn more about the Yokohama Harbors American Football Team.

Tampa Bay Lightning!
Favorite NHL player now?
Brayden Point
Favorite NHL player of all time?
It is a tough call but going to say Marty St. Louis.
Favorite Sports Teams outside of Japan?
Tampa Bay Lightning, Tampa Bay Rays, Tampa Bay Buccaneers!
In college USF, Hawaii, and the Florida Gators.
For the NBA it used to be the New Jersey Nets but now Philadelphia 76ers after the Nets left New Jersey.
What’s the most memorable game you’ve ever watched, live or on TV, and why?
I was in the building when the Tampa Bay Lightning won the 2004 Stanley Cup.
It was magical like a scene from Hollywood.
I hope the people of Yokohama will get to see an underdog hockey team like the Grits pull out a championship.
It makes the hard times the team goes through worth it and the championship feels so much more special to the fans that were there when the team was down.
If you could attend any historic hockey game from the past, which one would you pick?
The “Miracle on Ice” was an ice hockey game during the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York.
There is a Disney Movie named Miracle.
It was about an underdog team that did the impossible. The greatest line in hockey history was said at the end of the game “Do You Believe in Miracles?” by Al Michaels for ABC.
If you are a hockey fan you need to see it.
The Yokohama Grits should watch it every season as they way the league is set up we will always be underdogs.
I can’t wait for the Yokohama miracle to happen.
How do you feel about the current state of the Asian Ice Hockey League —any rules or trends you love or hate?
I love that I can live in Japan and still see my favorite sports in Yokohama.
I hope other cities get expansion teams.
To be honest, I hate how unbalanced the league is.
I don’t want to beat a dead horse here but the referees have to improve fast.
Japan has great officials in Baseball, Football, and other sports.
This has to be a league focus.
Who’s an underrated player on Yokohama Grits you think deserves more attention right now?
This is a hard question because so many players need a bigger spotlight on them.
That’s why I started the blog and hope to grow to show the world the Yokohama Grits and how awesome Yokohama is.
Our two rotating goalies Tomita and Furukawa are tough as nails and keep us in some games we had no right to be in.
I also want to see what Isobe can do in a game.
The defence improves every year but I’m excited to see what Rockwell and Saito can do in the future.
Unjo is a warrior. Suzuki and Ikeda don’t get the credit they deserve.
My pick is Kai Sugimoto, he is a star on the ice and the world has to hear about him.
What’s the best hockey moment you’ve witnessed in person, and how did the crowd react?
Once again the Tampa Bay Lighting 2024 Stanley Cup Win. Game 7 going into the 3rd period, someone held up a sign that said “This is the longest twenty minutes of our lives.”
No one thought they could win.
The league, the media, and even the fans. In that third period you saw non-religious people pray.
You saw strangers holding hands all wanting the same goal.
The new fans cheered as they knew winning the championship would always be a core memory.
The older fans had tears of joy running down their faces.
I want the fans who stuck with the Yokohama Grits to know the tears of joy rolling down your face, because you did the impossible, you gave up a piece of yourself to be a part of something bigger than you could ever imagine.
You look down and see warriors turn to champions and remember the hard times.
You remember when you were the joke of the league, how everything was stacked against you, just to be vindicated for all those times you left Kose heartbroken and cold, but never left the Yokohama Grits side.
I wish nothing more than that feeling to be felt to the die hard loyal Yokohama Grits Fans.
Predictions for this Yokohama Grits season?
I feel the way the league is set up, we can make the 4 team playoffs.
I think we can edge out the Free Blades.
Not making the playoffs would be a huge sting to the fans of Yokohama.
Do you ever look into the moonlight and scream “Grits Gang!!!”?
