今回のファンへのインタビューはグリッツ軍団のブレンダンにしてもらいました！
彼のグリッツへの想いとホッケーファンでいることの情熱について熱く語っております。
横浜グリッツを知ったきっかけは？
あれは2022年。グリッツ軍団の仲間ダニエルが、どこかのHubバーでチームの宣伝ポスターを見つけたんだ。
ずっとアイスホッケーの試合を見てみたいと思っていたから、さっそく次の試合を見に行ったよ。
言うまでもなく、すぐに夢中になった！
横浜グリッツで一番好きな選手は？また、その選手を際立たせている瞬間や特徴は何ですか？
アレックス・ラウターだね。
彼はシュートが素晴らしい上に常に全力を尽くし、どんな状況でも決して諦めない。
彼が氷上にいると、得点のチャンスが必ず出てくるんだ。
しかも非常に親切な性格で、いつもファンと喜んで話してくれる。
これまで生で観た中で一番好きなグリッツの試合は？
数々の名勝負があったけど、中でも忘れられないのは2024年3月、ジェフ・フラナガン監督にとって最後から2番目の試合となったアイスバックスのホームで8対1で圧勝した試合とが一つ。
もう一個は2025年2月、延長戦でHL安陽を4対3で破った試合かな。
この試合は第3ピリオドまでずっと緊迫した展開だったけど、ラウターが残り50秒で同点ゴールを決めて、2点を返したんだ。
彼は僕たちのところめがけてスケートしてきてくれて、ガラスに体当たりして歓喜を分かち合った瞬間があった。
あれは本当に忘れられない。
延長戦で三浦選手が決勝点を叩き込んだことで、さらに素晴らしい試合として記憶に残った。（試合はこちら）
好きな日本のスポーツチームは？
僕は生粋の横浜ファンだから、一番のお気に入りは横浜F・マリノスだけど、数シーズン前からラグビーも応援し始めた。
あとはチームカラーが赤（ごめん、赤い色でプレーするチームは何故か好きになれない）だけど、横浜キャノンイーグルスを応援しているよ。
好きなNHLチームは？
シアトル・クラーケン。
2022年にホッケーファンになり、NHLでのお気に入りチームを選びたくてうずうずしていたところ、シアトルにまだ2年目の新チームができたことを知って大興奮！
チームカラーは最高だし、名前もイケてるし（ホラーオタクの僕にはもってこい）、新生ホッケーファンと新しいホッケーチームという組み合わせがまさに完璧だったから、即決でクラーケンになった。
今一番好きなNHL選手は？
マティ・ベニアーズ！
彼はクラーケンのドラフト初指名選手で、僕がホッケーファンになったのと同じ年にクラーケンで最初のフルシーズンをスタートさせた人物。
なので僕自身のファンとしてのキャリアの始まりからずっと一緒にいたような感覚を持ってる。
日本以外で好きなスポーツチームは？
私はイギリスでいちスポーツのファンとして育ったから、故郷ではトッテナム・ホットスパー（サッカー）を応援してるよ。
でも数年前からアメリカンフットボールにもハマって、ニューヨークではバッファロー・ビルズがお気に入りかな。
だから正直に言うと、日本にいる間はどちらのチームも詳細を追うのに苦労してる…。
これまで観戦した中で最も印象に残っている試合は？（生中継・テレビ両方）
2022年9月18日、僕にとっては初めてのアイスホッケーの試合。
横浜グリッツは714人の観客の前で北海道クレインズを迎え、松淵選手、鈴木選手、池田選手、氏橋選手、岩本選手のゴールで5対3の大差で勝利してくれた！
この試合が私の「ホッケー初体験」となり、このスポーツの虜になった瞬間だった。
後悔ナシ！
過去の歴史的なホッケーの試合を観戦できるとしたら、どれを選びますか？
横浜グリッツの創設戦か、シアトルクラーケン戦かな。
リアルでは存在しない自分の孫たちに「ワシはあの場にいたんじゃよ！」と伝えられたら最高だね。
アジアアイスホッケーリーグの現状についてどう思いますか？好きなルールやトレンド、嫌いなルールはありますか？
NHLと同時に観戦するのは大変だけど、やっぱり審判のレベルと判定の責任感はもっと向上させる必要があると思う。
審判はマイクを装着し、それぞれの判定を明確に伝え、リプレイも流すべきだ。
アイスホッケーは日本ではまだマイナーなスポーツだから、リーグもまだ発展途上であることは承知しているけど、審判と判定が明確で一貫性があれば、初心者ももっと試合を理解できるだろうし、好きになるのに時間がかからないと思うんだ。
でもその傍ら、アイスホッケーがマイナースポーツであることには、選手や運営とのコミュニケーションのしやすさなど、多くのメリットもついてくることも確か。
ファン同士の一体感も素晴らしい。
もし一つだけ願いがあるとすれば、リーグにあと4チーム追加してほしいことかな。
同じ5チームと何度も対戦するのは退屈に感じることもあるから。
海外チームとのエキシビションマッチも熱烈希望！（クラーケン、グリッツをぶっ飛ばしてくれ！）
これまで生で見れたホッケーの最高の瞬間は？その時の観客の反応はどうでしたか？
さっき言った、アレックス・ラウターが喜びを分かち合いに飛んできてくれたこと！
満月を見上げながら「グリッツ最高！グリッツ軍団!!!」と叫んだことはありますか？
全裸の時だけね（笑。

Getting to know Grits Gang Brendan
How did you discover the Yokohama Grits?
That would be back in 2022, when fellow Grits Gang member Daniel spotted a poster advertising the team in a random Hub bar somewhere.
I’d always wanted to see an ice hockey game, so we attended the next scheduled game.
Needless to say, I was immediately hooked!
Who’s your all-time favorite Yokohama Grits player, and what moment or trait makes them stand out?
It’s gotta be Alex Rauter.
He’s got a great shot on him, always gets stuck in, and never seems to give up when the chips are down.
When he’s on the ice, you know we have a chance of scoring.
He’s also a super nice guy and is always happy to talk with the fans.
Favorite Grits Game you have seen live?
There’s been a few bangers over the years, but two games I’ll never forget would be in March 2024 when we trounced the Ice Bucks 8-1 on their own turf in what was to be Jeff Flanagan’s second-to-last-ever game as head coach, and last February (2025) when we beat HL Anyang 4-3 in overtime.
That game had a tense third period, but we pulled back two goals, with Alex Rauter scoring the equalizer with just 50 seconds left on the clock.
He celebrated by skating over to us and launching into the glass so that we could all rejoice together.
It was a really awesome moment, made even better by the fact that Daiki Miura slammed home the winner in overtime.

Favorite Japanese sports teams?
Well, I’m Yokohama through and through, so my first love is the Yokohama F. Marinos soccer team, but I also started following rugby a few seasons back.
Naturally, and despite the color red (sorry, I generally hate teams that play in that color), I follow the Yokohama Canon Eagles.
Favorite NHL Team?
Seattle Kraken.
I became a hockey fan in 2022 and was eager to pick a team in the NHL, so I was stoked to discover that Seattle had a brand-new team that was only in its sophomore season.
They play in awesome colors, have a sick name (I’m a huge horror nerd, so it’s right up my alley), and it was the perfect match of new hockey fan and new hockey team, so it really HAD to be the Kraken.
Favorite NHL player?
Matty Beniers.
He was the Kraken’s first-ever draft pick, and he started his first full season with them the same year I became a hockey fan, so he’s kinda been there from the start of my journey.
Favorite Sports Teams outside of Japan?
I grew up in England as a fan of the beautiful game, so my team back home is Tottenham Hotspur, but I got into American Football a few years back too and picked the ONLY team in New York: the Buffalo Bills.
If I’m honest, though, I struggle to keep up with either team while in Japan…
What’s the most memorable game you’ve ever watched, live or on TV, and why?
That would have to be my first-ever ice hockey game on September 18, 2022.
Yokohama Grits hosted the Hokkaido Cranes in front of 714 spectators and proceeded to smash them 5-3, with goals from Matsubuchi, Suzuki, Ikeda, Ujihashi, and Iwamoto.
It’s the game that took my “hockey cherry” and basically got me into the sport — I’ve never looked back since!
If you could attend any historic hockey game from the past, which one would you pick?
Either the inaugural game of the Yokohama Grits or the Seattle Kraken.
It would be awesome to tell my non-existent grandkids, “I was there!”
How do you feel about the current state of the Asian Ice Hockey League —any rules or trends you love or hate?
It can be tough when watching concurrently with the NHL, but the standard of refereeing and ownership of calls needs to improve, I feel.
I think refs need to be mic’ed up and state clearly what each call is, accompanied by replays.
I understand that the game is still very much a minor sport here in Japan, and that the league is still quite young, but newcomers will find it much easier to follow and get into the game if the refereeing and decisions were clear and consistent.
On the flip side, ice hockey being a minor sport brings many benefits too, such as ease of communicating with the players and management.
The feeling of community among the fans is also pretty special.
If I had one wish, though, it would be to increase the league by another 4 teams, as it can sometimes feel tedious playing against the same 5 teams over and over.
Exhibition matches with overseas teams would be sick too! (Kraken, come kick our asses!)
What’s the best hockey moment you’ve witnessed in person, and how did the crowd react?

Do you ever look into the moonlight and scream “Grits Gang!!!”?
Not while wearing clothes, no.
