This is an English translation of the Yokohama Grits Official Match Day Program vol.08, handed out to fans that came to Dydo Drinco Ice Arena,  on Jan 31st and February 1st, 2026.

Yuji Iwamoto Head Coach Interview

Q : Looking back at your last match against the Stars Kobe where you won two games straight, please tell us what went well and what you want to improve.

Iwamoto HC :
We had to win two straight matches in order to advance to the playoffs, and securing victories under such pressure was a major achievement.
I feel that our ability to not allow the other team to take the lead and hold on despite the difficult circumstances speaks volumes to the second-year players.
On the other hand, our inability to stop the consecutive losses is an issue.
We need to improve our ability to read the flow of the game, to quickly discern what the opponent is trying to do, and to share information on when to avoid risk.
These consecutive matches not only demonstrated the importance of victory, but also for improving ice hockey IQ.

Q : As you prepare to face the second-year athletes against the Tohoku Free Blades, what is your most important theme as a team?

Iwamoto HC :
We are currently five points behind the Stars, and the Free Blades have six games remaining against them.
Given this situation, it is absolutely essential that we accumulate points in this match.
The Grits will work hard together to focus on good defense and good offense, and we will strive to secure victory in the second half of the season.
The venue is Higashifushimi, but please cheer “Go Grits Go!” even louder than Shin-Yokohama.

Shuto Ishii FW

Q : What personal topic are you preparing as a forward for this season?

Ishii FW :
Thank you so much for coming to AUCNET DAY.
This season, the Grits have broadened the scope of their play as a team, creating more chances.
At the same time as a forward, I feel I need to improve my decision making ability.
While I haven’t scored a goal yet this season, I’ll give it my all today and contribute to the victory with a goal of my own.
Let’s all have a great time at AUCNET DAY together!

Q : How do you want to contribute to the team in the second half of the season?

Ishii FW :
With the Grits aiming for their first playoff appearance, every game in the second half will be a must-win.
I hope to contribute to victory by putting strong pressure on the opponent through good defense, steering the team into a winning position, and converting our limited opportunities into goals.
The players are supported every day by the warm support of our fans.
We appreciate your continued support.

Yujiro Isobe GK

Q : What do you think are the team’s characteristics and atmosphere after playing with them so far?

Isobe GK :
I feel like I’m having a very fulfilling time as a member of the Grits.
Even in the challenging environment of dual careers, I think it’s truly amazing that each player understands their role and takes ice hockey seriously.
Personally, even with limited playing time, I want to give it my all throughout the season for the sake of our fans.

Q : Please tell us if the cheers of the fans have changed your motivation.

Isobe GK :
The “Isobe calls” I received when I played the other day on the Kobe Line home court gave me a huge boost.
It was exactly the kind of fan enthusiasm I was looking for, and I had the fans cheering me on many times on the ice.
It was amazing!!
There are only a few home games left, but I hope you will continue to support us with the same fervor, both at home and away.

Roy Suzuki FW

Q : Please tell us if there is a routine you follow to stay in good condition.

Suzuki FW :
I value how I use my time after games.
I change clothes immediately after the game and eat rice balls and recovery drinks to recover from fatigue.
After that, I go on the bike for 15 minutes and do some thorough stretching.
Finally, I take a 10-minute ice bath and shower before leaving the rink.
I aim to get nine hours of sleep the day before a game, and by strictly adhering to this routine, I’m in good condition for the next game.

Q : What aspects of my play would you like people to pay attention to in this game?

Suzuki FW :
There are three points I would like you to pay attention to.
First, my play in front of the goal.
I would like to get involved in my specialty, such as screens in front of the goalkeeper and chips to line up shots.
Next is face-offs.
Whenever I’m in a situation, I always go in with the mindset of winning, so please keep an eye out for them.
Finally, checks.
I will take control of the flow with my aggressive play and put pressure on the opponent.
