Yokohama Grits Official Matchday Program vol. 3

What kind of progress do you feel the team is making right now, and what do you need to grow even more?

I think the team’s great chemistry and room to grow are big strengths, even compared with other teams.
At the same time, because we’re a young team, our lack of experience is a challenge.
As one of the mid-career players, I want to pass on what I’ve learned from the seniors and veterans to the younger guys, and help the team grow by serving as a bridge between the two groups.

What do you focus on in your daily practice?

“Out-train everyone” and “always enjoy being part of the team” are two principles I’ve held onto since joining Yokohama Grits, and they haven’t changed in any season.
I’m not a player with overwhelming achievements or skills, so I want to be someone who leads by example, through my effort and the work I put in.
Above all, I value having a great time with hockey and with my teammates.

What are your thoughts on the upcoming game sponsored by your company (at KFC), and what’s your message to everyone?

I’m truly grateful to my seniors and coworkers in my department, and to everyone at the company, for always supporting me so warmly.
I’d like to show them something good, but first I want to do my job and help the team win.
Ice hockey isn’t something people often get to see, so I hope you’ll enjoy an extraordinary experience that you can only have at the arena!

Looking back on the season so far, what progress and challenges do you see?

We got off to a good start with two straight wins, but since then it’s been tough, with a losing streak and more injured players.
That’s exactly why it’s so important for the whole team to face the same direction and fight as one.
Personally, I’m feeling good physically, so I’ll contribute on the ice and give everything I have until the end to win.

You’ve been an alternate captain since this season. What do you want to focus on to help the team keep growing?

I think the team needs to practice with games in mind at all times.
Because of our dual careers, we have less practice time than other teams, so the quality of every single session matters.
I try to lead the team not only by calling out game situations, but also through the way I approach daily practice.

What does the team need in order to win, and what’s your determination going into the game?

To win, I believe we have to care about the small details and never lose a battle.
As the saying goes, a small margin makes a big difference.
Accurate passes, backchecking, positioning, and every other small play add up to decide the result.
I’ll stay disciplined to the end, and I’ll fight with everything I have to score and contribute to the team’s win.
