日本は他の5カ国と対戦し、最多勝利（または全勝）を目指してトップディビジョンへの昇格を争うことに。
今大会では2チームが昇格可能。
今年の日本は、昇格に向けて非常に現実的なチャンスを迎えています。
課題となりうるのはポーランド、ウクライナ、カザフスタンの3チームの一方、フランスとリトアニアは日本が比較的容易に勝利できる相手と見られます。
フランスのアイスホッケー世界選手権チームを分析
しかし今年のフランス代表は、驚くほど戦力が薄くなっています。
オリンピック参加選手のうち戻ってきたのはわずか12名で、その12名がチームの総得点14ポイントのうち6ポイントしか記録していません。
しかもそのうち3ポイントは、フォワードのルイス・ブドン（Liiga）が1試合だけで挙げたもの。
本記事執筆時点で、モントリオール・カナディアンズとタンパベイ・ライトニングがプレーオフシリーズで2-1とリードしているため、スターFWのアレクサンドル・テキエがポーランドに間に合う可能性は低いでしょう。
また、フランスのゴールテンディングと守備は全体的に脆弱で、平野ら強力なフォワードが十分に突ける部分です。

実力ではウクライナが日本を上回ると言えますが、過去の対戦成績を踏まえると日本が勝利する可能性は十分にあります。
日本にとっては問題なく勝利できる相手です。
彼らの選手は欧州の2部リーグ（スロバキア、ポーランドなど）での経験はありますが、それ以上のレベルではありません。
三浦のような経験豊富な選手が相手なら、比較的楽に突破できるはずで、ほぼ確実な勝利が期待できるはず。

フィジカルコンタクトを恐れず、相手が誰であろうと全く意に介しません。

Japan Has A Solid Chance at Promotion at IIHF Division 1A

Saturday, May 2 at 19:30 JST marks the beginning of the 2026 IIHF Division 1A Championship in Sosnowiec, Poland for Team Japan.
Japan will face off against five other countries, seeking to win the most (or all) of the games to promote to the Top Division; of all of the teams, two can promote.
This year, Japan stands a solid chance at promotion.
There are three teams that could prove to be an issue: Poland, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan.
Japan should be able to easily dispatch France and Lithuania.
IIHF Analizing the French Ice Hockey team
In the past, France was a strong competitor for Japan; they have years of Top Division and Olympic experience, and generally feature at least a few NHL-level players on their roster.
But this year, their roster looks incredibly weak.
Of the players at the Olympics, only 12 returned. Those 12 players are only responsible for 6 of the total 14 points scored by France.
3 of those points are attributed solo to a one-game performance by forward Louis Boudon (Liiga).
Given that, as of writing, the Canadiens and Lightning are 2-1 in their playoff series, it’s unlikely that star forward Alexandre Texier and the Canadiens would be eliminated in time for Texier to make it to Poland.
France’s goaltending and defense is generally weak, something that strong forwards like Hirano should be able to exploit.
Although some may have considered France to be one of the strongest contenders, their roster this year is confusing at best and losing at worst, and gives Japan the opportunity to upset at least this opponent.

- RW Jordann Perret (Tipsport Extraliga)
- C Louis Boudon (Liiga)
Japan has a history of demolishing Ukraine, having won four times out of their last five meetings.
Ukraine has fielded a strong team, though; RW/LW Alexander Peresunko (Tauren Polska Hokej Liga), DF Igor Merezhko (Tipsport Extraliga), and goalie Bogdan Dyachenko (Tauren Polska Hokej Liga) are all players to watch out for in this game.
Ukraine is definitely comparably stronger than Japan, but if the past can be relied upon, this should be a win for them.
Lithuania is the team that promoted from Division 1B last year, and it would be shocking if they managed to avoid relegation.
This is a team that Japan should defeat without issue.
Their players have experience in the smaller second-tier leagues of Europe (Slovakia, Poland, etc.), but nothing more.
An experienced player like Miura should make quick work of Lithuania; almost a guaranteed win for Japan.

IIHF Asian Ice Hockey teams analysis
The fight between the top two Asian teams will be fierce.
Kazakhstan is dangerous.
Almost all of their players play for the Kontinental Hockey League, Russia’s top league that is frequently compared to the NHL in terms of skill.
These players aren’t afraid to get physical, and do not care in the slightest who they are up against.
Favored to promote this year, Kazakhstan is ruthless and quick. Goaltending in this game is a must; Otsuka can handle it, but Japan’s defense needs to stay sharp, too.
This is not an easy upset for Japan.
They’ll need to be at their best to stand a chance against Kazakhstan.

- RW Roman Starchenko (Pro Hokey Ligasy)
IIHF Poland Ice Hockey team analysis
Host nation Poland will certainly be an uphill battle, but not an impossible one.
Poland has won four of the last five meetings between themselves and Japan.
They also have Top Division experience. Seeing as they will be at home, Poland will certainly be energized and prepared to win.
Home crowds will boost enthusiasm and morale, making this meeting tougher than usual.
Japan will need to keep sharp for this game.

Compared to past years, Japan stands the best chance they’ve had to promote this year.
So long as they remain focused, Japan should be able to succeed — though it wouldn’t hurt to have the puck fall their way a few times in the process.
