東京・神奈川で20年間教壇に立って—ラーニングツリー・インターナショナルが「家」と感じる理由
東京・神奈川エリアで20年間、教師として充実した日々を送ってきた僕は、このたび正式に教壇を離れることになりました。
複数のビジネスや様々なプロジェクトを並行して動かしながらも、幼い子どもたちから高校生、大学生、ビジネスパーソンまで、本当に幅広い生徒と向き合ってきました。
その中で「年間最優秀教師賞」をいただく機会にも恵まれました。
僕がずっと特に好きだったのは、幼い子どもたちに教えることです。
早い段階で成功への道筋をつけてあげることには、言葉にできない魔法のような喜びがあります。
教育の世界では子どもの可能性を過小評価しがちですが、彼らが驚くほどのスピードで成長し、どんどん伸びていく姿を見届けることは、何物にも代えられない喜びです。
この20年間、僕は常に自分の授業をより良くすることに誇りを持ってきました。
「良い従業員」であることより、「素晴らしい教師」であることが目標でした。
教室の外でも起業家・小説家・ゲーム業界・マーケティング・アニメ・漫画のプロジェクトなど、様々な顔を持っていました。
他の業界で働いていると聞くなり、他の外国人はよく「教師じゃないなんてラッキーだね！」と言いますが、それが正直ずっと引っかかっていました。
僕は教師であることを誇りに思っていたし、今もそれは変わりません。
日本で暮らすためだけに教えている人が多いのは事実で、それは授業を見れば分かってしまうもの。
僕はどの国であっても教師をやっていたと思います。
心から教育が好きだから。
20年の間に多くの学校で働きました。
良い学校も、もっと良い学校も。
でもラーニングツリー・インターナショナルスクールだけは、いつも「本当の家」として輝いていました。
スタッフは皆、心から教えることを大切にしていて、その情熱を持てない人は自然と長続きしない。
創設者で校長のフミ先生は、僕がこれまで出会った中でも最も努力家の女性の一人です。
自ら手本を示し、献身的な人を正当に評価してくれる。
チーム全体が毎日、期待を超える仕事をしています。
初めて退職しようとした翌朝、目が覚めたら授業をもっと効率よくするアイデアが次々と頭に浮かんでいました。
ラーニングツリーが必要としてくれたのは「あと3週間だけ」のはずが……気がつけばさらに3年が経っていました（笑）。
残念ながら年齢を重ねるにつれて自分の腰と膝の問題が深刻になり、横浜から木場までの通勤が身体的に限界になってしまいました。
これからはフルタイムの小説家・ブロガー・コンテンツクリエイターとして新しい章を歩んでいきます。
20年間、数多くの学校を経験してきた今、自信を持って言えます。
もし再び教壇に立つことがあるとしたら、それはラーニングツリー・インターナショナルのためだけです。
この学校は僕を大切にしてくれ、本物の教育者を支え、常に生徒を最優先にしてくれました。
フミ先生、そしてラーニングツリーのチーム全員へ—教師としての最後の年々を、これほど意義深いものにしてくれて、本当にありがとうございました。
ラーニングツリー・インターナショナルスクールの歴史—一人の母親のビジョンから、東京の国際校へ
この10年間、僕の「家」であり続けたラーニングツリー・インターナショナルスクールは、シンプルでありながら力強い一つの想いから生まれました。
それは、「自分の子どもに最高の教育を受けさせたい」という一人の母親の思いです。
博士号を持つ正木富美子氏（Dr. Fumi）によって2003〜2004年頃に設立されたこの学校は、東京の小さな温かい学びの場としてスタートしました。
個人的な解決策として始まったものが、家族のような温かい雰囲気と子どもの全人的な成長へのコミットメントに共感した他の保護者たちの間に広まり、やがて多くの人から愛される国際学校へと成長していきました。
長年の歩みの中でラーニングツリーは真の国際的な教育機関へと進化を遂げ、世界中から子どもたちを受け入れるようになりました。
国際学校協議会（CIS）への加盟やIBディプロマプログラム候補校認定（高校への拡充も予定）など、権威ある認定も取得しています。
カリキュラムは探究型学習・バイリンガル教育（英語重視・日本語サポートあり）・芸術・スポーツ・人格教育を柱とし、共感力と成長マインドセットを持つグローバル市民の育成を目指しています。
現在は東京都江東区の木場・月島エリアにキャンパスを構え、バランスの取れた充実した教育環境を提供し続けています。
横浜や神奈川エリアからも公共交通機関でアクセスしやすく、温かな環境と将来の国際高校・グローバルな進路への準備という点で、多くのファミリーに選ばれています。
20年前の一人の母親の夢から、今や認定を受けた活気ある国際学校へ—ラーニングツリー・インターナショナルは、東京エリアにおける丁寧な子ども中心の教育の証です。

My 20-Year Teaching Journey in Tokyo & Kanagawa – And Why Learning Tree International Feels Like Home
After 20 rewarding years of teaching across the Tokyo and Kanagawa area, I have officially retired from classroom teaching.
While running multiple businesses and side projects, I had the privilege of teaching everyone from young children to high schoolers, university students, and business professionals.
Along the way, I was honored with awards including Teacher of the Year.
I’ve always especially loved teaching the younger students.
There’s something magical about setting them on a path to success early on.
Many people in education underestimate what young learners can achieve, but it’s incredibly fulfilling to watch them grow and thrive at an astonishing pace.
Throughout my career, I took great pride in constantly improving my craft.
I never focused on just being a “good employee” — my goal was always to be a great teacher.
I wore many hats outside the classroom too: entrepreneur, novelist, video game industry work, marketing, anime, and manga projects.
Whenever I worked in other fields, foreigners often told me how “lucky” I was not to be a teacher anymore.
That always bothered me.
I was — and still am — proud to be a teacher.
Too many people teach in Japan just to live here, and it shows.
I would teach in any country because I genuinely love education.
Over two decades, I worked at many schools.
Some were good, some were better — but Learning Tree International School always stood out as my true home.
The staff genuinely cares about teaching, and those who don’t share that passion don’t last long.
Dr. Fumi, the founder and principal, is one of the hardest-working women I’ve ever met.
She leads by example and rewards dedication.
The entire team goes above and beyond every day.
The first time I tried to retire, I woke up the next morning full of ideas on how to make classes even more efficient.
Learning Tree needed me for just three weeks… that turned into three more years!
Unfortunately, as I’ve gotten older and dealt with back and knee problems, the commute from Yokohama to Kiba became too much physically.
Now I’m shifting my focus to being a full-time novelist, blogger, and content creator.
After working at so many schools over 20 years, I can confidently say that if I ever return to teaching, it will only be for Learning Tree International.
The school treated me well, supported real educators, and always put students first.
Thank you, Dr. Fumi and the entire Learning Tree team, for making my final years in the classroom so meaningful.
