English ———————————-

“Ice wa Betsubara (”There’s always room for Ice Cream”)”: A Rich Parfait Cafe You’ll Get Hooked On

Yokohama has Kannai, and Kannai has Chinatown. Tucked away in a corner of Chinatown is a stylish little cafe you may not know about yet.
It’s called “Aisu wa Betsubara,” which roughly means “There’s always room for Ice Cream.”

The English language has the same idea (“There’s always room for dessert”), so it seems humans everywhere share a love of sweets.

The cafe is popular for its rich ice cream and huge variety of toppings.
This time, I went to try a limited menu that was only available for two days as part of a seasonal-change event. There were so many parfaits that I couldn’t decide!

Ice cream might be a summer thing, but eating it in winter is something special too.
Add seasonal events and ingredients, and it’s a dessert you can enjoy all year round.

The cafe rotates its parfait menu between summer and winter, so every visit brings something different. You might think, “Hmm, haven’t I had this one before?”
But the cream is made with a different ingredient, the red bean paste is a different type, or a topping that was a hit last season has been given a new twist.

Every time I go, I find something new I want to order.
Even if you think you’ve finally tried everything, the menu changes, so this is a spot you’ll always want to keep an eye on.

Cheesecake and Milky Strawberry: Both Wonderfully Rich

This time we ordered the cheesecake parfait and the strawberry condensed milk parfait!

One of the cafe’s best features is how quickly your order arrives. The interior is so stylish that every corner is photogenic, so the wait flies by. There’s even a spot where you can display your parfait when it arrives, and it’s so cute that I couldn’t stop snapping photos.

Once I’d taken enough pictures, it was time to dig in! ↓

The cheesecake has that distinctive cheesy flavor with a hint of bitterness, so when you eat it together with the cream and ice cream, a luxurious taste spreads through your mouth.
The cup itself is layered with ice cream and custard, so as you work your spoon down, adding bites of the cheesecake topping changes the flavor again and again.
It’s easy to get completely absorbed.

I also tried the Milky Strawberry, topped with gingerbread! ↓

As a big strawberry fan, this combo was irresistible.
The gingerbread is sweet, but the spices in it go incredibly well with milk, and I was tempted to dunk it into the toppings and ice cream layers and just devour it.
But I held back! Just like with the cheesecake, I savored it bit by bit, layering on strawberry jam, whipped cream, and milk ice cream.

Being able to enjoy a single parfait in so many different ways is what makes “Aisu wa Betsubara” so special.

A Stylish Space Inside the Cafe

The cafe’s interior is white and minimalist, which is a real relief for the eyes if you’ve been wandering Chinatown, with its bold primary colors of red and gold.
If your tongue is worn out from spicy, salty, or heavily spiced food, this is the perfect place to give it a rest.

It works well whether you’re going solo, out with friends, or on a date.
Next time you visit Chinatown, be sure to stop by.
I think you’ll enjoy a taste crafted with real care to satisfy its customers.
