Shuto Ishii leaving the Yokohama Grits
To Shuto Ishii #20, a huge thank you
Forward #20, Shuto Ishii, who has been an active player for Yokohama GRITS since the 2021-22 season, will be leaving the team at the end of this season due to the expiration of his contract.
Message from Shuto Ishii
This season marks the end of my time with Yokohama GRITS.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude.
I still remember when I was a practice player watching games from the bench, dreaming, “I want to play even just one game on this stage, and if possible, score even one goal.”
Later, I was given the chance to play in matches, and I was able to fulfill my dream.
Gradually, my goal evolved into wanting to lead GRITS to victory with my own goals.
There weren’t many games where I achieved it, but the five seasons I spent fighting for victory alongside my respected teammates, with the fans’ passionate “GO GRITS GO” chants behind me, are my greatest pride.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to all the fans who have supported us with unwavering passion, as well as the team staff, volunteers, my family, friends, and everyone at Oaknet Corporation who supported my dual career.
Thank you very much. Please continue to give your warm support to Yokohama GRITS!!
Comments from Club Representative Usui and GM Mikoshiba
Shuto Ishii joined Yokohama GRITS in October 2021, during the team’s second year in the league, as a practice player.
Through his own efforts, he earned a contract, was promoted to the regular roster, and made his presence felt by scoring a goal in his very first game.
The following month, in the game against Nikko, he scored a powerful shot from a shorthanded situation and then the tying goal, playing a major role in GRITS’ second victory of the season, which came in overtime.
Over five official seasons in the Asia League and Japan Cup, he accumulated a total of 24 goals.
True to his name “Shuto” (meaning “excellent shot”), Ishii possessed outstanding shooting ability.
With his many sharp goals, he helped secure victories for GRITS and brought great strength to the team.
As a local player from Sagamihara City who grew up with Shin-Yokohama Junior, Ishii continued to fight for us.
We are deeply moved as he now moves on to a new path.
Nevertheless, we firmly believe that the attitude and achievements he showed with GRITS will surely become a powerful asset in his next stage.
We would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone at Oaknet Corporation, who supported our dual career model and actively backed and encouraged Shuto’s challenge.
Shuto, thank you so much for these five seasons.
Please continue moving forward straight and strong, in your own unique way.
The entire team sincerely wishes you continued success and further achievements in the future.
