鎌倉から世界の頂点へ　神奈川が生んだイヨ・スカイ、WWE「クイーン・オブ・ザ・リング2026」制覇

神奈川県はこれまで数多くの世界クラスの才能を生み出してきましたが、イヨ・スカイ（旧名・紫雷イオ）ほど輝かしいストーリーを持つ選手はそう多くありません。
2026年6月27日、サウジアラビア・リヤドで開催されたWWEナイト・オブ・チャンピオンズにて、「天才飛翔体」こと彼女がウィメンズ・ワールド王者リブ・モーガンとの白熱したファイナルを制し、クイーン・オブ・ザ・リングの栄冠に輝きました。
この勝利によってサマースラムでのウィメンズ・ワールド選手権挑戦権を獲得するとともに、彼女が今世代における最高の女子プロレスラーの一人であることを改めて世界に証明。
神奈川という地から羽ばたいた誇り高きチャンピオンの誕生です。

横浜をはじめ神奈川全域のファンにとって、これは単なるプロレスの話ではありません。

イヨ・スカイの原点・鎌倉　—神奈川で育った少女

1990年5月8日、神奈川県鎌倉市生まれの大館将美（本名）。
歴史ある寺社仏閣と海岸の美しさ、そして横浜エリアの活気に満ちた環境の中で彼女は育ちました。
横浜中心部から電車でわずかの距離にある鎌倉は、大仏をはじめとする古の名所と現代の暮らしが融け合う特別な街。
そこで培われた規律・創造性・逞しさが、後のプロレスキャリアを形作る土台となりました。

神奈川の子どもたちらしく幼い頃から体を動かすことが好きで、体操競技で培った抜群の運動神経とハイフライングスタイルの原点もここにあります。
横浜という大都市が近くにあったことで大きなチャンスへのアクセスも持ちながら、地元コミュニティの中でしっかりと根を張って成長していきました。
そして姉の紫雷美央（同じくプロレスラー）の存在が、この道への扉を開くきっかけになりました。

インディーから国際舞台へ　—夢への第一歩

わずか16歳で、イヨは2007年3月4日にプロレスデビューを果たします。
姉・美央とともに「紫雷イオ・美央」としてタッグを組み、Team Makehen所属として活動を開始。プロレスリングWAVE、仙台ガールズ、JWPなど国内各地の団体に参戦し、さらにはメキシコへと渡ってルチャリブレにも挑戦。
「ビバ・笠井」「おゆき」といった覆面でリングに上がりながら、スピーディーでアグレッシブなルチャのスタイルを吸収していきました。

苦労と努力でひたすら基礎を積み上げたこの時期は、厳しいトレーニングで自分を鍛え続ける神奈川アスリートたちと重なるものがあります。

スターダム時代　——日本のエースへ

2011年にワールド・ワンダー・リング・スターダムへ入団。
ここで紫雷イヨは一気に開花しました。
団体の絶対的エースとして君臨し、獲得できるほぼすべてのタイトルを制覇。
スターダム初のグランドスラム達成という歴史的偉業も成し遂げました。
ハイフライングでテクニカル、そして革新的なスタイルが「天才飛翔体」の異名を生み、東京スポーツ女子プロレス大賞も複数回受賞しています。

日本を長年支配し続けた2018年、いよいよ次の扉を開く時が来ました。

海を渡って　—WWE挑戦の軌跡

2018年、WWEからのオファーが届きました。
メイ・ヤング・クラシックに参戦して決勝まで勝ち進んだ後に契約を締結し、NXTでの活動を開始。
NXTウィメンズ王座とタッグ王座を獲得し、日本で培った驚異的なアスレチックを世界に見せつけました。

2022年にはメインロスターへ昇格し「IYO SKY」として新たな歩みをスタート。
ベイリー、ダコタ・カイとともにDamage CTRLを結成しました。
以来、WWEウィメンズ王座・ウィメンズ・ワールド王座を制覇し、モンスター・イン・ザ・バンクのラダーマッチも制覇。
重力を無視したムーンサルトと果敢な攻撃スタイルで、世界中のファンを魅了しています。

イヨ・スカイのWWEへの道のりで欠かせない存在が、日本人の先駆者・アスカ（当時の名前はKANA）です。
2010年には紫雷美央とともに「トリプルテイルズ」というユニットを結成し、国内複数団体を渡り歩きながら自主興行も開催しました。
先輩（センパイ）でありながら、アスカは若きイオを対等なパートナーとして接し、厳しい上下関係を強いることなく信頼と創造性を育みました。
このスタイルがIYOの恐れを知らない姿勢を形成したと言えるでしょう。
WWEでもDamage CTRLという形で再び歩みを共にし、時に対立しながらも互いに支え合う関係を続けています。

クイーン・オブ・ザ・リング2026への道

2026年のクイーン・オブ・ザ・リングトーナメントは、IYO SKYが新たな歴史に名を刻む絶好の機会でした。
難しいブラケットを持ち前の実力で着実に勝ち上がっていきます。

1回戦（フェイタル4ウェイ・RAW　6月1日） ロクサーヌ・ペレス、ジュリア、ラッシュ・レジェンドを撃破

準決勝（RAW　6月15日） 激しい打ち合いの末、ラケル・ロドリゲスを下す

決勝（ナイト・オブ・チャンピオンズ　6月27日） リヤドの舞台で、現ウィメンズ・ワールド王者リブ・モーガンと激突。試合中に膝を痛めながらもその痛みを乗り越え、スパニッシュフライを決めると最後は十八番のオーバー・ザ・ムーンサルトで3カウントを奪取しました。

戴冠直後、IYO SKYはリブ・モーガンを真っ直ぐ指差し、「サマースラム2026でウィメンズ・ワールド選手権に挑戦する」と高らかに宣言しました。

This victory not only earned her a Women’s World Championship match at SummerSlam but also cemented her status as one of the greatest women’s wrestlers of her generation — and a proud product of the Kanagawa region.

Iyo Sky’s Roots in Kamakura: A Kanagawa Upbringing

Born Masami Odate on May 8, 1990, in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, IYO SKY grew up surrounded by the historic temples, coastal beauty, and vibrant energy of the greater Yokohama area. Kamakura — just a short train ride from central Yokohama — is famous for its ancient sites like the Great Buddha and its blend of tradition and modern life. It’s the kind of place that fosters discipline, creativity, and resilience — qualities that would define her wrestling career.

Like many kids in Kanagawa, she was active from a young age, with a background in gymnastics that helped shape her incredible athleticism and high-flying style. The proximity to Yokohama gave her access to bigger opportunities while staying grounded in the local community. Her older sister, Mio Shirai (also a wrestler), played a huge role in introducing her to the sport.

Early Days: From Local Indies to International Dreams

 At just 16 years old, Masami made her professional wrestling debut on March 4, 2007, teaming with her sister under the ring names Io and Mio Shirai. They started in smaller promotions across Japan, representing Team Makehen and competing in places like Pro Wrestling Wave, Sendai Girls’, and JWP. A stint in Mexico followed, where she trained and wrestled under names like Biba Kasai and Oyuki, sharpening her skills in the fast-paced lucha libre environment.

These early years were all about hard work and building a foundation — the same grit you see in Kanagawa athletes pushing through tough training regimens.

The Stardom Era: Becoming Japan’s Ace

In 2011, she joined World Wonder Ring Stardom, Japan’s premier women’s wrestling promotion. This is where Io Shirai truly exploded onto the scene. She became the promotion’s undisputed ace, winning nearly every title available and becoming its first Grand Slam Champion. Her high-flying, technical, and innovative style earned her the nickname “Genius of the Sky” and multiple Tokyo Sports Joshi Puroresu Grand Prizes.

By 2018, after dominating in Japan for years, she was ready for the next chapter.

Iyo Sky Crossing the Ocean: The WWE Journey

WWE came calling in 2018. She competed in the Mae Young Classic (reaching the finals), signed a contract, and began her journey in NXT as Io Shirai. There, she captured the NXT Women’s Championship and tag team gold, showcasing the same athletic brilliance that made her a star in Japan.

In 2022, she debuted on the main roster as IYO SKY, joining Damage CTRL alongside Bayley and Dakota Kai. Since then, she has become a multi-time champion, including WWE Women’s Champion and Women’s World Champion, and won the prestigious Money in the Bank ladder match. Her gravity-defying moonsaults and fearless offense have made her a fan favorite worldwide.

A major early influence on IYO SKY’s path to WWE stardom was fellow Japanese trailblazer Asuka (then known as Kana). In 2010, the two teamed with Mio Shirai to form the influential Triple Tails stable on the Japanese independent scene, where they wrestled across multiple promotions and produced their own events. Asuka, as the veteran “senpai,” took a non-traditional approach and treated the young Io as an equal rather than enforcing strict hierarchy — fostering trust, creativity, and a rebellious spirit that shaped IYO’s fearless style. Years later in WWE, their paths crossed again in Damage CTRL, with Asuka providing guidance and support during key moments, even as they occasionally stood on opposite sides of the ring. This deep-rooted connection from Kanagawa-area roots to global stages has made their shared history one of mutual respect and inspiration in women’s wrestling.

The Road to Queen of the Ring 2026

The 2026 Queen of the Ring tournament was IYO SKY’s chance to add another historic achievement to her resume. She navigated a tough bracket with characteristic excellence:

• First Round (Fatal 4-Way, Raw – June 1): Defeated Roxanne Perez, Giulia, and Lash Legend.

• Semifinals (Raw – June 15): Overcame Raquel Rodriguez in a hard-hitting match.

• Final (Night of Champions – June 27): In Riyadh, she faced the reigning Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan. Despite tweaking her knee during the match, SKY fought through the pain, hit a Spanish Fly, and sealed the victory with her signature Over the Moonsault for the three-count.

Moments after being crowned, she pointed directly at Liv Morgan and declared she would challenge her for the Women’s World Championship at SummerSlam 2026.
